Al Hashemi emerges on top in Masters event

The UAE bowlers won both the gold and silver medals of the Masters category in the Arab Bowling Championships, which ended on Saturday night at Amman, Jordan.

The UAE's Sayed Ebrahim Al Hashemi won the gold while his compatriot Naif Ogab claimed the silver to increase the UAE's tally to nine four gold, three silver and two bronze.

Their nearest rivals, Kuwait, collected three medals, one gold, one silver and a bronze.

Ogab led the pack of bowlers by the end of the first round and promoted on the step-ladder in top place while Saudi Arabian Hassan Al Shaid was second and Al Hashemi third.

Al Hashemi beat both Al Shaikh and Ogab to win his gold medal.

Qatar won one gold medal, Saudi Arabia won one silver and three bronze while Bahrain won one silver.

Egypt, Palestine, Iraq and hosts Jordan failed to win a medal.

Canadian coach, Frank, said that this lot of bowlers were the best that represented the UAE in the past four years.

He hoped that they would achieve more victories for their country since many of them were still young and would be playing for a long time.

The Arab Championships will help prepare Naif Ogab for his participation in the FIQ World Cup, which begins in Finland next month.
