Weekend watchlist: 10 TV shows and movies to check out

‘Love in the Villa’ (Netflix): Add some sparks to your weekend and check out this sweet romance flick. In it, a young woman (Kat Graham) takes a trip to Verona, Italy, after a break-up. When she gets there, she finds out that the villa she reserved was double-booked and she has to share it with handsome British man (Tom Hopper).

‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’ (OSN+): The prequel to the show that took over the world is finally here. In the new series follows the reign of House Targaryen and is based on George RR Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’, set 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’.

‘Off the Hook’ (Netflix): This French movie promises to be laugh riot. Realising they both have a toxic relationship to the Internet, roommates Lea and Manon decide to do the unthinkable: abandon all devices for 30 days.

‘Boyhood’ (Starzplay): Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, this groundbreaking 2014 drama is a story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason, who literally grows up on screen.

‘Into the Deep’ (UAE cinemas): Faced with an uncertain future and still coming to terms with the death of her mother in a car crash, Jess (Ella-Rae Smith) invites Ben (Matthew Daddario), an attractive American she meets at work, to a beach party. Later, Jess finds herself onboard a boat, far out at sea, with a stranger who may not be quite who she thinks he is.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home - Fun Stuff Version’ (UAE cinemas): After Spider-Man’s identity is revealed, this friendly superhero (Tom Holland) has to cope with his personal life and saving the world. He enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret however things go haywire and brings back Spidey’s biggest villains.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ (Amazon Prime Video): Beginning in a time of relative peace, we follow an ensemble cast of characters as they confront the re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

‘Devil in Ohio’ (Netflix): When hospital psychiatrist Dr Suzanne Mathis shelters a mysterious cult escapee, her world is turned upside down as the strange girl’s arrival threatens to tear her own family apart.

‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ (Disney+): Starring Andrew Garfield, this limited series inspired by the bestseller by Jon Krakauer, follows the murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley. As Detective Jeb Pyre investigates events that transpired, he uncovers buried truths.

‘Juvenile Justice’ (Netflix): This Korean drama deals with a judge named Eun-seok, who dislikes juvenile delinquents. However, through her work, she realises the social troubles children face and how society is also responsible for the children’s malicious behaviours.
