The language of love is as varied as love itself. Love has many forms and colours, colours that can even dwarf the rainbow.
The word comes from the Sanskrit word lubh, to desire. However the origin of the word is not as important as its versatility by which it is expressed.
The language of love has many forms. It can be both profound and profane. It can be both unconditional and indulgent.
It can be platonic as well as amorous. It can also have other forms, such as adoration, adulation, affection, ardour - in fact there can be no end to the magnanimity of this four letter word.
It is but natural that a feeling that has such myriad forms, must also have an equally variant ways of expressing it. It can be expressed through words, gesture, smile, a kiss or through the eyes.
The first and the foremost method of expressing love, whether waxing or waning are through words whether spoken or written. Words have a magical power; they can engulf one by fanning the emotions to a crescendo and make the heart miss a few beats by a mere whisper.
There is nothing better then the age-old and straight forward method of admission by saying, "I love you"; "you are my heart throb", "without you my life is futile" and so on.
Burns expresses his love by saying, "Had we never loved so blindly, never met or never parted, we would never have been broken-hearted."
But words alone need not be the sole means of expressing your deep passions, desire or your warmth. The same can be expressed through a single rose or a bouquet, if you so desire.
Mirror of the soul
The eyes are the mirror of the soul. They have the power to convey your inner vibrations in a more subtle way, which words can camouflage. A deep sincere penetrating look has the power to melt even the most hardened hearts. Even a wink can convey what words cannot say.
A smile has a power to go miles. It is but a little upward curve of lips, which according to Douglas Malloch, "A smile is far more wonderful it is to see what smiles can do. You smile at one and he (she) smiles at you and so one smile makes two."
A smile costs nothing, but gives much. In fact it takes but a moment but the memory of it usually lasts forever. It creates sunshine even in the bluest moments and can bind even those heats which are presumed to be broken forever.
A kiss is one of the most beautiful ways of expressing love. It does not matter whether you kiss your beloved on the forehead, on the cheeks or on the lips, its memory lasts forever.
That is why when Dr Faustus sees Helen of Troy, The only thing he can utter is, "Ah! Helen make me immortal with a kiss."
True love is not like the changing faces of the moon and nor it is like the tide that comes and goes. It is steady like the Pole Star.
