Shisha, shisha, all fall down

There is a strong possibility that when the UAE Government introduces a federal anti-tobacco law, the Ministry of Health will follow on with a ban on shisha pipes.

Doubtless there will be many people who will complain at this severe measure, and not only cafés and suppliers of tobacco and shishas. Many users, mainly from the Middle East, see it as a pleasurable pastime, especially after a hectic day at work.

Yet despite any alleged pleasure that may be gained from this noxious habit, there is a high risk to health in smoking the shisha pipe. It has been shown that one pipe-full inflicts greater damage to health than a whole packet of cigarettes. Users of shisha often end up with cancer of the tongue and mouth, besides also damaging the lungs.

For the sake of good health and a smoke-free environment, a ban on shisha pipes is welcome.
