Rival districts must end feud

As Eid and National Day approach, Shaam and Ghaleelah must put differences to bed

The rivalry between Ras Al Khaimah's Shaam and Ghaleelah districts has gone on for too long and too far. It took a very serious turn on Sunday, when some people from one neighbourhood burned down a giant UAE flag installed in the other neighbourhood, saying it was on their property.

This long rivalry, with intermittent clashes, is nothing but childish and it must stop. Certainly there are enough wise people from both areas who could intervene and put an end to this absurd problem once and for all. Local authorities also need to step in to reconcile the feuding parties.

The two communities have been living together for years. Isn't it time to put to rest their differences and try to work out a solution?

Probably the 38th National Day, also preceded by the biggest Islamic Eid, Al Adha, is the occasion when sanity will prevail.
