Mayawati is no longer fit to lead

The daughter of India's dalit (poor) has sold herself at the altar of daulat (riches). The curious case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supporters garlanding Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati with currency notes amounting to billions of rupees has revealed the sheer absurdities that can be attributed to Indian politics.

It is politicians like Mayawati and her ruling party that are responsible for such classifications. She is given to severe bouts of megalomania while her supporters are victims of extreme sycophancy. But it is Mayawati who, in her exacerbated state of narcissism, has crossed the line this time with her vulgar displays of power.

The chief minister of India's most populous state has shown that there is no one capable of taking her on by correcting her actions — even though criticism of it continues to pour in. This is a sad commentary on the impotence of the centre, the opposition and the media. The garlands — and there is more to come — were made after collecting donations from the poor. It shows that Mayawati is no longer fit to lead. The poor can gain nothing from someone who has dedicated statues to herself, by using funds from the state exchequer, in her lifetime.
