US politics has hit a new low. Ever since Republican presidential nominee John McCain named Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate, the media there has focused more on her style than her substance.

You can now purchase Sarah Palin dolls on the internet. We've heard interviews from some of the 9,000 residents of her home town of Wasillia, of which she was mayor before going on to become Governor of America's least-populated state.

Now comes news that this moose-hunter's eyeglasses have become hugely popular, with opticians noticing a spike in requests for same-styled frames.

Has US politics fallen to the level of mass specs appeal? Or are voters looking through her rose-tinted glasses? Let's hope that foresight is 20-20.
