Dubai: If you accidentally drive through a Salik toll gate in Dubai without a Salik tag on your vehicle, you won’t be fined immediately. But you do have a limited window to fix the issue and avoid penalties.

Grace period: 10 working days to install a Salik tag

You have a grace period of 10 working days from the date and time of your first unpaid trip through a Salik toll gate to:

  • Buy a Salik tag

  • Activate it

  • Stick it to your vehicle’s windshield

If you already have a Salik account, you must also link the new tag to your account within this timeframe.

What are the fines if you miss the deadline?

If you fail to take action within the 10 working days, Salik will begin issuing fines. The penalties are as follows:

  • Dh100 for the first offence (after the grace period)

  • Dh200 for the second offence

  • Dh400 for each subsequent offence

Only one violation is issued per day per vehicle. These fines will continue until a valid tag is installed and activated on your vehicle.

How to get and activate your Salik tag

To avoid fines, you must activate your Salik tag before driving through any toll gates. You can do this through the following channels:

How to correctly install your Salik tag

Proper placement is essential to ensure your tag is detected and to avoid penalties. Follow these four simple steps:

  1. Position it correctly

    • Stick the tag 1 cm below your rearview mirror

    • If your windshield is metallic, use the dotted area

    • Avoid placing it on dark tinted areas

  2. Clean the windshield

    • Wipe and dry the spot where the tag will go

  3. Peel the tag

    • Hold it by the edges and remove the clear backing

  4. Stick the tag

    • Press one side to the windshield, smooth it across to avoid bubbles

You only need one tag per vehicle.

If you’ve driven through a Salik gate without a tag, act quickly. You have 10 working days to install and activate your tag to avoid escalating fines.
