Dubai: Travelling out of Dubai, but not sure if you can take the public transport to the airport? If you are planning to take the Dubai Metro to the airport before your flight out of Dubai, it is important to keep in mind the rules for carrying luggage in the Metro.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) provides public transport users access to terminals at Dubai International Airport (DXB) through the Metro as well as the Dubai Bus.
The Dubai Metro has two stops on the Red Line, which allow passengers to access Dubai International Airport’s terminals:
- Airport Terminal 1
- Airport Terminal 3
If you are travelling from a station which is on the Dubai Metro Green Line, then you will need to switch to the Red Line through either of the two interchange stations – Union Station, which is in Deira, or the BurJuman Station, which is in Bur Dubai.
If you are travelling from the Dubai Tram, which also allows commuters to carry luggage, you can switch directly to the Dubai Metro Red Line at the following stations, which are both on Sheikh Zayed Road – Dubai Marina Station, or the DMCC Station.
Whether you are taking the Metro or Dubai Tram, there are two suitcases permitted per passenger:
- One large suitcase. Dimensions should not exceed - 81cm x 58cm x 30cm
- One small suitcase. Dimensions should not exceed - 55cm x 38cm x 20cm
All luggage must be stowed in the dedicated luggage area, which can be found in each cabin.
There is no Metro Station right next to Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport. The nearest Metro station is the Abu Hail Station, which is on the Green Line. You can take a taxi from the Abu Hail Metro Station to the Arrivals gate on Terminal 2.
Also, if your flight is taking off from Terminal 2, or if you are carrying heavy luggage, it may be advisable to take a taxi to the airport.
While there are bus services that take commuters to all the three terminals of Dubai International Airport, the baggage policy of the RTA states that bulky luggage is not allowed inside the bus. Also, commuters are not allowed to place luggage in the gangway, which is the passage between rows of seats.
