    COVID-19: Unvaccinated people not allowed to enter these public places in Abu Dhabi

    The directive will come into effect from August 20

    If you are not vaccinated, there are some public places that you may not be able to visit following an announcement by the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee.

    The decision, effective from  August 20, will allow only those vaccinated to enter the following places:

    •	Shopping centres •	Restaurants •	Cafes •	Gyms •	Recreational facilities •	Sporting activities

    Exceptions The decision does not include places that sell essential goods such as supermarkets and pharmacies.

    It also does not apply to: 1.	Unvaccinated individuals with vaccination exemption received through the approved process and registered on the Al Hosn app. 2.	Children aged 15 and under.

    EDE scanners at public places While the decision will come into effect from August 20, the Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) has already authorised the use of scanners at various locations in the emirate.

    The EDE scanners (named after the EDE Research Institute Abu Dhabi, which developed the technology) are being used at various locations in the emirate, to test for COVID-19 infections.

    The EDE scanner detects possible infections by measuring electromagnetic waves that change when the RNA (Ribonucleic acid) particles of the virus are present in the person’s body.
