Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Salim-Sulaiman
Names like Yashraj Films, Aditya Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan evoke musical memories of hit soundtracks like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein. However, Salim-Sulaiman's music for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is devoid of the same magic.
The soundtrack begins with Roopkumar Rathod's romantic number Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, which also doubles as the film's title song. Later Shreya Ghoshal lends her voice to the same song. Despite each singer's efforts to pour some emotion into the song it largely remains a low-key offering. Sunidhi Chouhan and Labh Janjua's Dance Pe Chance Maar Le is an out-and-out item-song with some tacky lyrics. Sonu Nigam's Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte is a peppy dance-number, making a word play on titles of Bollywood's milestone romantic classic films. The theme is simple – though the eras and stars have changed, the romance remains the same!
The best song is Sukhvinder Singh's excellently rendered Haule Haule Se Dava Lagti Hai – a catchy romantic number, which has turned popular on TV and radio shows. The album concludes with an instrumental piece – Dance Jodi – featuring a collage of different tunes from the film.
Deshdrohi
Nikhil
Deshdrohi has managed to rake up enough controversy through some politically charged TV promos but if its music is any pointer, then it all seems to be an exercise in mediocrity!
Despite having top singers like Udit Narayan, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Zubeen, Mahalaxmi and Shreya Ghoshal, music director Nikhil fails to make any headway. His compositions sound uninteresting and clichéd. Yeh Ishq Gunaah, Mere Haalat Pe and Mera Vaada Raha are some of the better efforts.
Khuda Gawah/Sanam Bewafa
Various artistes
This twin soundtrack combo presents music from the 1990s. Laxmikant-Pyarelal's Khuda Gawah – compositions like Tu Mujhe Kabool, Deewana Mujhe Kar Gaya and Rab Ko Yaad Karun and Mahesh-Kishore's Sanam Bewafa – tunes like Choodi Maza Na Degi, Mujhe Allah Ki Kasam and O Sanam Bewafa had become quite popular in those days. But over the years, these songs have lost their sheen and now they sound quite outdated.
Caravan/Teesri Manzil
R. D. Burman
This twin soundtrack combo presents the unquestionable genius of R. D. Burman in full flight. If music of the 1967 film Teesri Manzil established Burman as the trendsetting composer, then 1972 film Caravan confirmed his growing musical stature. Songs like Aaja Aaja Main Hoon Pyar Tera, O Haseena Zulfonwali, Deewana Mujhsa Nahi, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Dilbar Dil Se Pyare and Chadhti Jawani are evergreen classics.
