Like many people, if not all, a new year comes with new energy. So I decided to go to the park to write down my goals for the year. Prior to that, I packed some fruits and a book that I had bought myself as a gift on Christmas Day — ‘The power of positive thinking’ by Norman Vincent. Along the way, I listened to Darren Hardy, the publisher of Success Magazine on how to set goals.
As I turned to a clean page, I came across my list of goals for 2014, with none of them achieved. Yes, I did learn a few Arabic words and yes, I did exercise like 20 times in a year. With this in mind, I knew I had to set a strategic plan on how to actually achieve my goals for the year.
The only things I added on the 2015 list was to meditate 30 minutes daily, overcome Acrophobia, which is a fear of heights, and call my family every weekend.
I realise my goals are only possible if I will fully commit myself to them. I want to improve my career, keep myself healthy, start my online business, save more, improve my personal growth and make a difference. However, in order to do so, I have to make some important choices. There are friends I am going to sift, as I only need qualitative people. In addition, I have to use the word ‘no’ more than yes. Also, I don’t really have to hang out, instead I can use that time to improve my skills or read a book — by doing so, I will save more money in my pocket as I can just brew my coffee at home. I also need to limit the time I spend on social media before I sleep, and instead I will use this time to meditate, and by doing so, I will have inner peace before going to bed. A habit is a disease — I am going to put this into habit and at the end of it, I will have a successful habit.
