They are young. They are probably one of the biggest girl bands of all time. Rami Jaber profiles the Sugababes.

Welcome back to another Rami Jaber music artist review! Wasn’t Madonna simply amazing at the Brits Awards? I can’t even believe that she is 50! Seriously!

She looks and sounds like someone in her 30s! She deserves it though!

A woman like her really knows how to be innovative and she really does deserve the Queen of Pop title because that is what she is.

Now back to our review. Re-introducing you to — The Sugababes, one of the UK’s hottest girl bands at the moment.

The Sugababes are: Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy. The latter two dropped out in the course of time.

Keisha and Mutya are childhood pals who met Siobhan at a party when they were just 13. Soon, they found themselves singing together and a short while later they had signed up with London Records.

In 2001, the babes’ flight to glory experienced some turbulence. London Records dropped them and Heidi Range (born May 23, 1983 in Liverpool) replaced Siobhan.

However, the girls overcame all obstacles, signing a record label contract with Universal Island in 2001 and topping the UK charts with Freak Like Me.

Meawnhile, Siobhan Donaghy went solo in 2003 with Overrated. However, the trio’s success in topping the charts with Hole in The Head in November of the same year was an achievement Donaghy couldn’t reproduce on her own.

Mutya dropped out in December 2005 and Amelle Berrabah stepped in.

Facts on the babes in general: Two back-to-back triple platinum albums (Angels With Dirty Faces and Three), one million singles sold in the UK, three No. 1s (Freak Like Me, Round Round, Hole in the Head), a Brit Award, a Q Award, a Smash Hits Award, and an Elle Style Award.

And the Rami goes to…

In their latest album, Taller in More Ways, Sugababes and pop fans will love tracks like Push The Button, Red Dress, and 2 Hearts.

There is a lot of argument currently about the album. Some say this could be their best ever; some say they prefer their earlier ones. Whichever the case, you can’t deny that the babes have found their key to success.

That key is to blend your average pop song with dance music elements. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise you to hear Push the Button on one of your local radio stations that usually plays House and R‘n’B music. Even though the babes have failed to make it to the US charts, they have definitely landed on UAE charts!

Are they the next Bananaramas? That is possible! But let us not spend too much time speculating on the future and simply enjoy the fresh upbeat music of Taller in More Ways.

See you all next week!
