Dubai: Going to the beach has become easier for people of determination and the elderly in Dubai, as the municipality has provided dedicated walkways for them on the emirate’s public beaches.

Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, said the special pathways have been built for the people of determination and the elderly, to enable them to cross the sandy beach and get to the water easily.

“We have provided these at Al Mamzar Creek Beach, Al Mamzar Corniche Beach, Jumeirah 2 and 3 beaches, Umm Suqeim 1 and 2 beaches. They are built meeting international standards in this area, facilitating the movement of wheelchairs, allowing the user to reach the water and enjoy swimming in the sea. The locations were chosen closer to the parking lots assigned to people of determination,” Al Harmoudi said in a press release on Thursday.

“The provision of these pathways, in addition to fitness equipment dedicated for use by people of determination at all the beaches of the emirate, reflects the municipality’s efforts in providing the necessary services and facilities to transform Dubai into a differently abled-friendly city by 2020.”

The move is in line with the ‘My Community is a Place for All’ initiative launched by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.
