Sharjah: Alongside the renovation for phase 1 of the ‘Heart of Sharjah’ project, the heritage area has hosted several cultural and educational events highlighting the country’s traditions.

The 7th Traditional Handicraft Forum which focused on familiarising visitors with the names and rules of the country’s traditional games, was recently held at the Heritage Area in Sharjah from February 28 to March 8. The forum was organised by the Heart of Sharjah in collaboration with the Directorate of Heritage at the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah and highlighted one of the most important components of heritage and social life of the people of the UAE.

The 10th edition of Sharjah Heritage Days 2012 was also held at the Heritage Area in old Sharjah, which was considered the main venue for the festival that lasted 17 days.

The festival included scientific lectures at the House of Nadwa located in Sharjah’s Heritage area, along with traditional workshops on perfume and incense making and Emirati dishes.

Earlier this year, His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, also visited the Heart of Sharjah area where he inspected new buildings and art spaces for the Sharjah Art Foundation.

Dr Shaikh Sultan discussed the designs of the existing buildings and infrastructure plans regarding the surrounding buildings and services in the old area.
