Shadab Khan, the son of the late actor Amjad Khan, first cast, then dropped, TV star Nausheen Ali Sardar from his film.
The film, Highway 203, marks his directorial debut.
TV star Nausheen says Shadab Khan is the reason she has decided to stage a comeback in Ekta Kapoor's popular TV serial Kkusum.
Khan said he had earlier planned to launch the film with Naseeruddin Shah and Perizaad, but thought of casting Nausheen instead since he couldn't afford Perizaad's fee.
"However my producers backed out and I was back to square one. Then Prince Dandona stepped in as producer."
"Unfortunately Naseer Sir was busy with his other commitments and hence not in a position to allot dates for our project. I realigned the script and cast Kay Kay as a young writer."
Khan dumped Nausheen and cast Perizaad in his film because distributors felt that Nausheen is known more as a TV actress and suggested that he cast Perizaad.
Shadab Khan had played the leading man in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, a film with which Rani Mukherjee had made her debut.
In between, he wrote for Jackie Shroff's unreleased Sandhya.
