What happens when three male buddies take an oath not to get married, fearing the loss of their friendship in the wake of new relationships?

That’s the tale in this weekend’s Tamil film, Endrendrum Punnagai, directed by I. Ahmad.

“Jiiva, Vinay Rai and Santhanam play three friends in this feel-good film,” said Ahmad. “It also dwells on the bond between a father and son.”

Nasser plays Jiiva’s father.

“There is no hero or heroine as such in the film. Every actor plays a significant role,” continued Ahmad, who also wrote the script.

Vinay added: “I play this guy who is always flirting with women. Ahmad was great fun to work with and my co-stars, being of the same age, [we] had a blast. The memorable moments are those spent watching Nasser sir on the sets. Despite his age, he carries the enthusiasm of a thirty-year-old. My admiration for him has grown.”

Playing a middle class girl is Trisha, while singer-actress Andrea plays a model with an attitude.

“Andrea’s role is crucial to the story,” added the 39-year-old filmmaker, who has worked in television and radio before stepping into films.

An ad-film maker, Ahmad runs Think Entertainment, an advertising company based in Singapore. His first film, Vaamanan, was an action thriller made in 2009.

Endrendrum Punnagai was shot in Chennai, France and Switzerland, with music by Harris Jayaraj.
