Organisers of Lollapalooza say they are reopening the music festival after the threat of a storm prompted them to evacuate attendees.

Organisers said on Sunday afternoon in a news release they were shutting down the music festival on Sunday afternoon for “a short period” and directed those in attendance to underground shelter sites along Michigan Avenue.

A second release said gates would reopen at 3.30pm and the music would resume at 4pm.

The festival started on Friday and ends on Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service had issued severe thunderstorm warnings in areas west and north of the city, but the storms passed quickly.
