'Grateful beyond words': Sonam Kapoor shares tender first look at her second son

Dubai: A week after welcoming her second son into the world, Sonam Kapoor has given fans their first glimpse of the newest member of the Ahuja family, and it is every bit as tender as you would hope.

The actor, who gave birth on 29 March alongside husband Anand Ahuja, took to Instagram on Friday to share a series of photographs from her hospital room at HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. The image that stopped everyone mid-scroll shows Sonam resting on her hospital bed, eyes gently closed, with a soft smile on her face as she cradles her newborn against her chest. The baby is wrapped snugly in white, barely visible, but entirely the centre of the frame. It is a quiet, unguarded moment, and that is precisely why it has resonated so deeply.

A note of gratitude

Alongside the photographs, Sonam penned a heartfelt message thanking the medical team who brought her son safely into the world. "Grateful beyond words," she began, before going on to express particular appreciation for her obstetrician, Dr Avaan Dadina, who guided her through both her pregnancies.

"There is a sense of trust, calm, and reassurance in her care that is so rare, and I'm endlessly grateful for her support, wisdom, and kindness," Sonam wrote. She also extended her thanks to the wider hospital team, praising not just their professionalism but the warmth and empathy they brought to what she described as an exceptional experience. "It's not always something one expects in a hospital, but it absolutely should be, and it made this experience so meaningful," she added.

The post drew an outpouring of love in the comments, with Sonakshi Sinha, Bhumi Pednekar and Sanjay Kapoor among those leaving heart emojis. Fans flooded the comments with warmth and congratulations.

The announcement that started it all

The couple first shared the news of their son's arrival on Sunday 29 March in a joint statement that was warm, considered and thoroughly Sonam in its elegance. "With immense gratitude and hearts full of love, we are delighted to announce the arrival of our baby boy," the note read. "Our family has grown, and with his arrival, our hearts have expanded in the most beautiful way."

The post also confirmed that their firstborn, four-year-old Vayu, is thrilled about his new role. "Vayu is overjoyed to welcome his little brother, and we feel deeply blessed by this precious new life who has filled our home with happiness and grace."

The baby's name has not yet been publicly revealed.

Their love story, for those who need a reminder

Sonam and Anand's relationship began during the promotions of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in 2015. Despite her friends initially trying to set her up with one of Anand's friends, it was Anand himself she found herself drawn to. The couple married in an intimate ceremony in 2018, welcomed Vayu in 2022 and announced this second pregnancy in November 2025, with Sonam marking the occasion in her signature fashion, sharing a series of beautifully shot photographs showing off her baby bump.

Now a family of four, the Ahujas appear to be exactly where they want to be. And if that quiet photograph of a mother resting with her newborn is anything to go by, this new chapter has started in the most beautiful way possible.
