‘Piku’ crosses Rs1b mark worldwide

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar’s slice-of-life family entertainer Piku, a tale of a father and a daughter’s relationship, has collected Rs1 billion (Dh57.5 million) worldwide.

Featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, the film is continuing its successful run at the box office even after two weeks.

“#Piku Overseas total: $5.36 million [Rs.34.09 cr]. Worldwide total [India + Overseas] crossed Rs.100 cr. FANTASTIC! [sic]”, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday.

Overwhelmed by the response to Piku, Bachchan also took to Twitter to share his excitement.

“‘PIKU’ is 100 cr world wide! ‘BLUES’ win BPL and IPL... I am like ‘o baby! come to Mama! BADOOOMBA,” the 72-year-old tweeted.

The film is about a father and daughter who travel from Delhi to Kolkata by car through the scenic city of Varanasi.
