Abu Dhabi: The Ramadan Council of Heritage magazine emphasizes the importance of teaching heritage in the national education curricula.

A number of scholars, media personalities and intellectuals agreed on the importance of teaching heritage as part of the national education lesson over the three school stages.

They said that teaching heritage is important because of its being an important element in the UAE's national identity.

Agreement

The agreement over this issue was clear in the Ramadan Majlis of the Al Turath magazine at the Heritage Village in Abu Dhabi on Thursday evening. Al Thurath magazine is published by the Emirates Heritage Club.

Habeeb Al Sayegh, theCEO of Shaikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's Media Cultural Centre and General Supervisor of the Heritage Magazine said that Shaikh Sultan, the representative of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the Emirates Heritage Club is highly interested in teaching the UAE heritage in schools as a part of the national education class curricula.

He also added that the UAE heritage which is a priority of Shaikh Sultan's, has been emphasized by Shaikh Khalifa to instill its aspects in the soul of the people of the UAE.

He also reiterated that Shaikh Sultan is always keen on following up the fields of education and heritage as they are the two elements of the country's national identity.

Al Sayegh also explained the reason of choosing the topic of education and heritage and said that the new look of the magazine will focus on the topic because both aspects are the true representatives of the national identity

Dr Khawla Al Mualla, the Minister of Education's adviser, welcomed the positive feedback received during the discussion. She said that all relevant bodies need to specify their requirements.
