Dubai: Sharjah is expected to begin importing gas from Iran by the end of this year, an Iranian official said yesterday.
Kamal Daneshyar, chairman of the Energy Commission at the Iranian parliament, said Sharjah and Iran have long-standing cooperation in oil and gas, and this will be boosted by this agreement.
Daneshyar led a delegation comprising five members of the Energy Commission on a two-day visit to Sharjah. He was received on Friday by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council.
"Sharjah and Iran have been cooperating on oil and gas for more than 30 years, and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and Crescent Petroleum Company of Sharjah have signed and are implementing an important project for Iranian gas export to Sharjah for 25 years, which will be the first of its kind in the region," Daneshyar said.
