Abu Dhabi: National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) was recently awarded a Dh550 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the UAE company announced yesterday.

The major EPC contract (is) for the WO-16 Cluster and SB-14 Wellhead Platforms Project at the offshore Mumbai High field, NPCC said in a statement. The contract was won by NPCC following two rounds of bidding involving stiff competition from several international and local Indian contractors.

"We immediately started the India project after being awarded the contract.

"India is a very challenging market and we will be submitting tenders for several projects in India this year," NPCC's Chief Executive Officer Aqeel Madi told Gulf News. "We have been involved in Indian projects since 1984."

The work consists of engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, hook-up, pre-commissioning and commissioning for five wellhead platforms.
