Sharjah sets up Higher Committee to speed up economic growth

Dubai: Sharjah has set up a new committee to oversell all economic integration activity in the emirate. It comes at a time when Sharjah is fast-tracking infrastructure development and creating new clusters dedicated to businesses, including startups, to be based.

The emirate’s property sector continues to be in a major expansion mode.

The Higher Committee for Economic Integration will prepare an updated strategy for further economic development which includes the mainland and free zones. It will set growth targets and the main sectors that will support the economic structure via legislation and policies.

There will also be enhanced cooperation between government entities to ‘ensure their integration and non-duplication’.

Members of the new Committee

The Committee will be headed by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations. Other members include:  

1. Saud Salem Al Mazrouei, Director of the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Director of the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone Authority.

2. Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh, Executive Director of the Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment Office.

3. Imad Mohammed Al Ajouz, Director of the Financial Policies Office at the Sharjah Finance Department.

4. Dr. Amr Saleh, Economic Advisor at the Sharjah Economic Development Department.

5. Abdullah Al Kadid Al Mahrazi, Director of the Statistics Department at the Department of Statistics and Community Development.

6. Abdelshafi Al Ashmawi, National Accounts Expert at the Department of Statistics and Community Development.

New rules for compensation

Meanwhile, Sharjah has also developed new rules for granting assistance to those affected whose homes were damaged by natural disasters.

The requirements for requesting assistance include:

* The affected person must be a citizen of the UAE.

* The affected person must be a permanent resident of the damaged residence at the time of the damage.

* the individual must complete the documents required by the department.

* The affected person's residence must be located within the borders of the emirate.

* The damage must be the result of a natural disaster declared by the relevant competent authorities.
