Dubai: Al Futtaim Motors, the Toyota distributors in the UAE, will begin a service campaign for the 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon and 2009-10 Toyota Sequoia starting February 24.

The campaign will fix an accelerator flaw which could lead the speed of the engine to increase slightly in extreme cold weather conditions.

A metal bar will be fitted into the accelerator to exert more tension on the pedal, so that it goes back to its original position, Simon Frith, managing director of Al Futtaim Motors, said. The process will take 30 minutes to perform on each vehicle, he said.

While there are about 3,000 vehicles potentially affected by the issue, the exact number which will undergo the service campaign hasn't been determined yet.

"Since we've opened the help line we have taken over 300 calls and 150 of them had to do with the vehicles involved with the Toyota Avalon and Toyota Sequoia," Frith said.

"On Thursday, we called all of those customers [150] to let them know we're booking them for the service campaign." Frith added that the company is calling the customers in its database to book them for the service campaign.

"Most of [the vehicles] were sold in the past two or three years, so we believe we'll be able to contact the majority of them," he said.

Have you experienced any of the said problems with your car? Have you contacted Toyota? What happened?
