One of the most iconic cars of the Eighties by AMG was the Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC Widebody...

It not only looked the part of a high-performance machine but it was the ultimate in luxury and exclusivity too.

It was built in 1989 when AMG was still an independent tuner. In 1999, Mercedes-Benz decided to take a controlling interest in AMG and became its sole owner in 2005. Only 50 examples of this car were made and now one of them is up for sale...

It features a blue-black metallic exterior and an all-black interior. It's a rare car and in great condition - but it has an asking price of a whopping $242,500...

That is even more than a brand new 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT-R which will set you back around $163,000...

It delivers true supercar performance; the GT R's handcrafted 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 makes 577 horsepower...

But, old is gold as they say. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V8 making 380 horses. Power goes to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.

AMG provided the widebody treatment and aero kit and while its suspension was made firmer thanks to performance springs and shocks.

A set of 17in three-piece rims complete the look and attitude. It also features larger disc brakes and an AMG exhaust.

The tuned V8 produced twice as much torque (555Nm) of the original engine enabling the 560 SEC AMG 6.0 Widebody to hit a top speed of more than 285kph and a claimed 0-100kph sprint of under 6.0 seconds.

It had an interior which was equipped with the full AMG package, fully electronic adjustable Recaro racing seats, additional walnut wood trim, an AMG steering wheel, and chrome door sills.

Both the driver and front passenger seats offer a memory function and lumbar support, too.

Offered by Holland’s Auto Leitner, it has covered only 34,637km from new. Adding to its appeal is the fact that it’s original and unrestored. Given the rarity and exclusivity of this pre-Mercedes-AMG AMG-tuned coupe, there must be plenty of interested parties out there....
