Dubai: Bahrain’s world champion Winfred Yavi put on a remarkable performance to qualify for the women’s 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

Yavi secured first place in the round 1 of the second heat with an impressive time of 9:15.11.

The 24-year-old is now one among the favourites to win her first Olympic medal in the steeplechase final to be held on Tuesday.

Ethiopian runner Sembo Almayeu finished second with a timing of 9:15.42 while Valerie Constien of the USA finished third at 9:16.33.
