After Tiger Woods and Nike brought their formidable 27-year relationship to an end last month speculation has been rife about what direction the former World No.1 would take next – now the answer has been finally revealed.

The 15-time Major champion officially announced his new Sun Day Red clothing line at an event in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, three days before he makes his first official PGA Tour start since last year’s Masters Tournament.

"It started with mum," Woods said at Monday's event.

"Mum thought being a Capricorn that my power colour was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments. Lo and behold, I go to a university that is red, Stanford is red. We wore red on the final day of every single tournament, and then every single tournament I've played as a professional I've worn red. It's just become synonymous with me."

Sun Day Red falls under the TaylorMade umbrella but will be a standalone business unit revealed TaylorMade CEO David Abeles.

“This brand stands alone,” Abeles said. “It is independent from TaylorMade and it is run by an independent group of leaders that are part of my team – I couldn’t be more thrilled – so that we can focus on what matters on this brand most. … This brand will have its own identity. It will have its own identity when we launch it tonight. It will have its own identity 20 years from now."

With the new brand also comes a new logo that depicts a tiger jumping, replacing the “TW” logo Woods used most of his career. The tiger features 15 stripes, a nod to Woods' 15 Major titles, but what if he was to win another?

When Abeles told Woods that each stripe on the abstract Tiger represented one of his 15 Major victories, Woods replied with, "Well, what are we gonna do when we get to 16?"

The duo later confirmed that another stripe would be added if Woods does get his hands on Major silverware for the 16th time.

“I have learned so much over the years and have a lifetime of experience adjusting my apparel and footwear to help me play better based on the way it was constructed,” added Woods.

“There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I’m ready to share those secrets with the world. Sun Day Red will embody a love of playing and competing, and we are for people that share those values, whether it’s on the course, or in life. We will be anchored to putting the athlete first in the product decisions we make.”

Sun Day Red, which will launch May 1.
