Bernhard Langer equals most wins in PGA Champions Tour history
Chubb Classic win means the 65-year-old German matches Hale Irwin for most titles on Tour
Bernhard Langer, 65, earned his 45th PGA Tour Champions title at the Chubb Classic on Sunday afternoon. A 17-under total for a three-stroke win over Stricker and Harrington.
A win for Langer is no real surprise at he has claimed a fair few in his time! His first coming back in 2007 at the Insperity Invitational after he finished 25-under at Augusta Pines for an eight-stroke win over Mark O’Meara.
This most recent win at the Chubb Classic for Langer’s trophy cabinet now puts him in the record books for another reason. He now equals Hale Irwin’s record of 45 titles on the 50-and-over circuit and breaks his own record as the oldest winner on the PGA Tour Champions.
Langer had already broken the record of the oldest winner on the Tour at the 2021 Dominion Energy Charity Classic, which was then his 42nd title.
“When I first came out here, I thought, ‘This is never going to happen,’” Langer said in his winner’s press conference after securing title No. 45. “Hale, if you’re watching, congratulations; you’re a great champion, and I’m honored to have tied your record.
“I certainly am going to give (No. 46) a shot. We’ll see if it happens. If not, life goes on, whether you win one more or not, or whether you have another record or not.”
The quest for win number 46 continues.
