UAE send strong team to Nomura Cup
Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Emirates Golf Federation, believes the UAE is fielding one of its strongest-ever teams at this week’s Nomura Cup in Vietnam.
The Nomura Cup, officially known as the APGC Team Championship, is a biennial amateur men’s golf tournament organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC).
The four-day event, which begins on Tuesday, welcomes players from over 15 countries and features 18 holes of stroke play each day. The two best rounds from each team per day contribute to the overall team score, while an individual champion will also be crowned after 72 holes.
Representing the UAE are Ahmad Skaik, Jonathan Selvaraj, and Sam Mullane, all of whom have earned high praise from Al Shamsi.
“This might be one of the strongest teams that we have representing at the UAE at the Nomura Cup. These gentlemen are ready, and we are excited to see how we match up with the other strong nations of the APGC,” said Secretary General Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi.
The tournament will take place at the Ninperal Golf Hai Phong – Marsh Course, renowned for its challenging natural marshland terrain. With five of the final six holes featuring water hazards, the closing stretch promises to be a true test for the competitors.
Historically, the event has been dominated by Australia, who have claimed the Cup 10 times, while Japan has won it seven times.
