Stand aside guys, it’s time for the ladies to take the golf stage in UAE
Desert Rose Golfing Society Order of Merit taking shape with Al Ain up next
With the European Tour’s men finishing their season at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai over the last couple of weeks it was great to see some of our Desert Rose Golfing Society (DRGS) ladies within the ropes volunteering as both marshals and TV support.
It is always a treat to watch the world’s best men (and best ladies at the Dubai Moonlight Classic at EGC) so close to the action. I know all the ladies had a fun time and all have some great memories and stories to tell about their experience.
Our JA The Resort, Jebel Ali, Desert Rose Order of Merit is going from strength to strength with ladies playing in a number of events over The Resort Course.
The current leader after three qualifying rounds in this season-long series is Andrea Kjaedegaard with an impressive 97 points in this individual Stableford format. In second place, also having played three rounds is Stephanie Tsalidis with 82 points.
The leaderboard will start taking shape after a couple more rounds as all the players complete the same number of rounds, but already Andrea looks like she will take some catching.
We all have a treat on Wednesday as we make a first DRGS outing to Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club. We have a great day planned with a golf clinic hosted by the Club as well as 18 holes of competitive golf.
We thank the club for their invitation to play and look forward to hopefully making this a permanent venue on the DRGS calendar and potentially a staycation stop for our group.
It is remarkable to see how the golfing season is going so fast. December is just next week and the weather is now perfect for golf, it is just a matter of being able to get a tee time at the right place at the right time. Golf seems to be in a good place in the UAE at this time. My advice to help and support the golf clubs in the UAE, is, if you book a fourball, honour that fourball or booking, or cancel with as much notice as possible. There is nothing more frustrating for both the management of the golf club or a golfer, who cannot get access to the golf course as the tee sheet is ‘full’, than to see incomplete groups going off the tee.
Membership fees for DRGS are Dh1,000 per annum with an active and varied golfing calendar, other social activities, plus so much more is delivered through the platform of golf.
