From the Editors: DP World-Unicef partnership a big step forward for mankind Our editors' comment on local and global events plus the day's top trending topics Published: January 28, 2021 11:42 Compiled by Devadasan K P, Picture Editor 1 of 4 DP WORLD-UNICEF PARTNERSHIP A HUGE STEP FORWARD FOR MANKIND: With Dubai’s DP World joining hands with Unicef to supply two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine to low and lower middle-income countries, the world can now look forward to a more equitable distribution of a safety-shield to a much wider cross-section of people mostly in the developing and under-developed nations. Finding a vaccine to fight against this dreaded virus is only half the job done until and unless the last man, woman or child on this planet is inoculated. And that will be possible only when the logistics part is sorted out. This is where DP World has a huge role to play with its cutting-edge expertise in handling global supply-chain logistics. By using Dubai as a hub, DP World can offer Unicef the logistical wherewithal it needs to ensure that the vaccine reaches even the most impoverished communities on Earth, in the farthest corners of the globe, in the shortest possible time. This tie-up definitely marks a huge step forward for mankind in the fight against COVID-19. And this has been amplified during the time of COVID-19 when many of us have been cloistered at home. A new study has revealed that at least for some people certain times of the day may be more beneficial for metabolic health. This is good news for those who find it difficult to get up early to go for a run or even a walk. While many different workout plans have been identified as being good for the human body, what remains foundational is that we need to exercise. There is no excuse for this if we want to stay healthy and see out the rest of the pandemic. Pakistan’s Fawad Alam proved to be another enigma from his country when the 35-year-old returned to the side after 10 years, scored 109 in almost six hours to anchor Pakistan’s innings from a precarious overnight total of 33-4 against South Africa overnight. Maybe last year’s reports that she married a movie producer for 12 days (she says in never happened) made her hesitant to share her news this time. Bollywood star Varun Dhawan too kept the world out of his marriage to Natasha Dalal, releasing images and offering photo opportunities on their own terms. More and more celebrities are understanding that in order to ensure their privacy, they have to draw the line and be strict about it. Stars have the power to protect themselves from scrutiny and they should wield it. [COMMENT BY: Jennifer Barretto, Assistant Editor] Image Credit: AFP
