New Dior and Roses exhibition
Christian Dior loved the beauty of women as much as the flowers. If he did not design couture designs, he would surely have been a gardener or a florist. If you have already seen the spectacular exhibition Dior, Designer of Dreams in Paris, we suggest going to the Villa Les Rhumbs. Located in Granville, in the French northwest seaside, it is the house where Monsieur Dior grew up and discovered the beauty of gardens thanks to his mother.
His childhood house is now entitled the Christian Dior Museum, where we can visit Dior and Roses. This exhibition offers haute couture designs, like the Antibe Suit from the spring 1955 haute couture collection, with its unique roses print. It also presents accessories, artwork, decoration, and objets d'art. Reminiscent of the New Look in 1947, which made Christian Dior a famous designer, is a shape inspired by the corolla flower. Perfumes are also in the exhibition, including Miss Dior, the first women's fragrance from the brand, today one of their most famous fragrances.
From pale pink to redder shades, sometimes associated with the world of little girls, sometimes with that of the femme fatale, pink was constantly used by Christian Dior. With grey, pink is the colour of his childhood. The exhibition shows how pink and roses, as a Dior code, inspired the following designers. We can mention Yves Saint Laurent and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the last successor (with Kim Jones) and the first woman to be the artistic director for Dior with a roses embroidered tulle dress from the Spring-Summer 2020.
The exhibition closely links Dior's family history and his career. Through this point of view, we can discover characters such as his younger sister, Catherine. Working with flowers, she is the one who supported and inspired her brother. To not miss the event, the Dior and Roses exhibition is open to the public until October 31.
