The historic home of Dior hosts Les Lalanne exhibition
At number 30 Montaigne, its iconic address in Paris in the Champs-Élysées area, the House of Dior is presenting an exhibition until October 9 that honours the founder of the Maison, Christian Dior, who prior to becoming a legendary couturier worked as a gallery owner and art collector.
The exhibition is showcasing more than 20 important works by world renowned French sculptors Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, and it’s the first chance to see the pieces from the collection of the artists’ daughter, Dorothée Lalanne, before an auction by Sotheby’s in Paris where 90 sculptures will be presented.
Dior’s relationship with the Lalanne couple began when they met in 1957, when he started commissioning decors for his boutique at the corner of Avenue Montaigne and Rue François-Ier when Dior founded the Maison. The relationship kept growing, and in 2007 Claude Lalanne again decorated the boutiques of Dior, before creating an entire jewellery collection for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s spring-summer 2017 haute couture Dior show.
The latest exhibition of Les Lalanne sculptures at 30 Montaigne is honouring these two exceptional French artists in a fitting setting, the historical home of Dior, that was entirely reinvented earlier this year.
