Ras Al Khaimah: In keeping with the spirit of community assistance during Ramadan, RAK Hospital has gifted ready iftar packs to around 1,300 drivers in Ras Al Khaimah on a single day. The packages were distributed at the hospital premises where around 800 taxi drivers and 500 Talabat delivery riders had lined up to receive their iftar packs.

The initiative served as a token of appreciation for these community members who often have to end their fast while behind the wheel, to ensure continuation of their services to society.

Gesture of gratitude

Thanking the drivers, Dr Raza Siddiqui, executive director of RAK Hospital, said: “Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to take a break from this annual commitment to drivers in RAK in the past two years. Today, we felt humbled and thankful to have resumed this and to have been to show our appreciation once again for the drivers [and riders] who work tirelessly, sometimes round the clock, to make commuting easier for us. This year, we also invited Talabat drivers to have the iftar packs as a small token of thanks for their services during COVID-19, when they worked 24x7, delivering our orders while we stayed safe in our homes.”

Unsung heroes

Dr Siddiqui added that Ramadan was an important reminder for the community to rekindle compassion and mercy for fellow human beings. “Often, we take services for granted. Ramadan is great time to remind ourselves that we have much to be thankful for. Many of these drivers live without their families and it’s not only our duty to be kind towards them, but also our responsibility to make their lives easy as they do for us.”
