I am, delighted to announce that the Desert Rose Golfing Society (DRGS) has received official support and sanctioning from the Emirates Golf Federation.

DRGS has seen a strong membership surge now that the cooler weather is starting to happen and the 2021-2022 golf season has begun. We are also delighted to be delivering our DRGS membership cards to members, providing them all with enhanced benefits in and around the UAE.

I met up with Mr Khalid Mubarak, the Secretary General of the EGF, and Robert Fiala, Operations and Marketing Manager, EGF, and they agreed to link our DRGS website with the EGF website on a reciprocal basis.

The DRGS has always worked alongside the EGF and we have always insisted that it is a condition of DRGS membership that all our members are also EGF members and hold an official EGF handicap, either as a member of a golf club or as an EGF direct member.

The EGF also approved the sanctioning of the UAE Ladies Inter-Club Challenge (ICC) which will happen later this season, with myself as the coordinator of the league and using the DRGS platform and website.

We have a meeting of the representatives of all the interested UAE Golf Clubs at the AGM of the ICC to be held on October 3 at The Els Club after which the 2021—2022 calendar of fixtures will be published.

We are all looking forward to the forthcoming 260,000-euro Dubai Moonlight Classic on the Ladies European Tour to be held on the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club, October 27-29 under the floodlights. We are connected with the organisers on how DRGS can support in any way. Last year the top prize went to Australian Minjee Lee, who went on to win her first major earlier this year, the 2021 Evian Championship in France. Sadly, crowds were not permitted last year, due to COVID-19 government restrictions and a tournament bubble, but we are all hopeful we can both watch and support these top golfers playing in Dubai in just a few weeks’ time.

The Desert Rose Golfing Society is supported by the Emirates Golf Federation, Gulf News, BMW, JA Resorts and Hotels, Orient Travel, Golf Superstore, Car Buying People and Mediclinic.
