But that vacuum might diminish when you know that he's going to participate in this year's Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) this evening. History has taught us that anything to do with King Khan -- as he's lovingly called -- turns out to be a rockstar evening. He will turn on the charm and dazzle everyone with his charisma, candor, and self-deprecating humour. And he will subtly remind us that adages like 'out of sight, out of mind' doesn't apply to a legend like him. Here's hoping he sweeps his legion of UAE fans off their feet, just like how he does in his mushy romantic musicals. CEOs in the UAE, going by a new KPMG report, seem to be well aware of that, building up a raft of defenses if and when the global economy slips into a recession. These UAE business chiefs are confident that there is still much happening within the local – and regional – economy to compensate for uncertainties elsewhere. Because it’s in such times that defensive investment strategies pay off – even handsomely. The strategies UAE businesses adopted during the worst of the Covid period is proving just as useful in the post-Covid phase. Watch the cash. The warning comes after two Emirati teens, without DLs, lost their lives while three other sustained injuries in a horrific head-on collision between two vehicles. The accident, which was reported in Al Madam area of Sharjah Central Region at midnight, involved boys aged between 14 and 16. Although, the UAE Federal Traffic Law clearly states that driving without a licence can result in a prison sentence up to three months and/or a maximum fine of Dh5,000, a greater awareness campaign is needed to avoid these tragic accidents. Also, it is the responsibility of parents to watch their children closely and not to let them drive unless they obtain their DL. (By Ashfaq Ahmed, Senior Assistant Editor) Image Credit: Twitter/IANS
