1. Soak rice and daal separately for at least half an hour. Drain.
2. Heat ghee and fry cinnamon, cardamom and onion until onion turns golden. Add rice and daal and fry for a few minutes.
3. Add 4 cups water and salt to taste. Bring to the boil, then cover and cook on very low heat until done.
