Abu Dhabi: The depth of expertise in the UAE’s space initiative is set to expand further following the completion of BAE Systems and Mubadala’s inaugural space internship programme for Emirati women, Ashwaq Saleh and Maryam Al Nuaimi.

After six months at BAE’s Applied Intelligence (AI) Labs facility in the UK, Saleh and Nuaimi returned to the UAE to embark on careers in the industry.

Fatima Al Marzouqi, Head of Emiratization at Mubadala, said: “Ashwaq and Maryam’s transformation during the internship has been incredible to see and the depth of work they have completed has been extremely impressive. That development – in this crucial field – will be a great asset to the UAE and its ambitions in space.”

During the programme, Ashwaq and Maryam worked alongside AI Labs’ senior space engineers.

“Many of the assignments Ashwaq and Maryam took part in, and also led, at AI Labs will be transferrable to many of the projects currently being undertaken in the UAE,” said Andy Crisp, BAE Systems’ UAE Country Director.
