Dubai: If you think cutting a cake is too mainstream, a video of a young man from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) shooting his birthday cake with a gun has gone viral.

The young man targets the birthday cake on a sidewalk, while he is cheered on by his friends who chant “maar do” (shoot it). He misses the cake the first time over, but manages to hit it on the second try.

The clip was originally posted to video-sharing website Tik Tok by @naveendagar56 on Saturday. It has since been shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Indian social media users expressed concerns over the safety of gun possession by young individuals and about whether the weapon was acquired legally.

Tweep @Jacobji01 posted: “How old are these kids, 15-16? And they already have fire arms in their possession? I bet they are not legally licensed to carry one ...”

Account @AapBelapurNM (The official handle of the Aam Aadmi Party, Belapur Assembly) tweeted: “That is so dangerous. The bullet can ricochet and kill anyone.”

Several social media users commented on the state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Tweep @AnilKum39287065 posted: “... Badlands of Yogi [referring to Yogi Adityanath, the current Chief Minister of UP]”

@ExkameshRao tweeted: “It can happen in Jungle Raj [unlawful environment].”

The Tik Tok account on which the video was originally posted, listed Meerut as its location.

Facebook user Anand Singh tagged his friends and posted: “Like I always say, Meerut and Banaras [another city in UP] never fail to surprise me.”

Social media user @Sniper_2019_2_0 questioned the lack of police intervention, tweeting: “Where is @Uppolice. Eating cake?”

Other social media users also tagged the official Twitter account of UP Police, who, in turn, tagged the official Meerut police handle to investigate the matter. However, Meerut police responded in the coments that the “case is not related to the Meerut district”.
