Dubai: The Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge secured another feather in its cap when it became only the third competition in the world to be chosen as a live-scoring test event by the world governing body of the sport.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) took its cue from the German Bundesliga, which has been using a live-scoring system since 2009.

Other European countries followed the live-scoring system in an attempt to bring an interactive relay of sports at the click of the fingertips.

"Choosing Dubai was not too difficult for us as we realise the high quality of everything here," Soeren Friemel, a Grand Slam supervisor and international referee who is supervising the test, told Gulf News.

The system simply involves the chair umpire updating the scores via a mobile phone application as the game progresses.

The system could be fully integrated by next March.
