The Brighton College June Monthly Medal included 39 players competing in an 18-hole Individual Strokeplay format with Johan Potgieter leading the way with a 4-under par 66 net total.
Division A: Johan Potgieter compiled scores of 33 net on his front and back nine’s leading to a superb -4 Net 66. He had five pars and a birdie three on the second Hole on the front nine and four straight pars from Holes 13 to 17 with a birdie four on Hole 18.
Between the first and the eighth hole, Wayne O'Mahony produced six consecutive pars, along with a birdie on the seventh, for a 33 net on the front. He then added a birdie three on Hole 14 and successive pars on 15 and 16 to sign off with 36 net on the back nine. This resulted in his second place finish by a countback over third place finisher Min Oh Seo who produced 11 pars and two birdies for his front and back nine nets of 32 and 37 respectively. Both players ended the round with 69 net total.
Division B: Tara King’s 67 net was earned by posting two pars and back-to-back birdies on Holes 4 and 5, followed by 34 net on the back nine with straight pars from Holes 10 through 12, which resulted in her first place finish. The second place finisher, Sultan Al Nasseri, finished with a pair of net 35s on his two nines, including a birdie three on Hole two, consecutive pars from Holes four to six, a birdie two on Hole 13, and also, back-to-back pars on Holes 14 and 15. Will Portugal took third place with a net 71, producing six pars on the front nine for 1-under net 34, as well as a net 37 with five pars on the back nine.
Division C: First to third place was determined by countback since four players had the same net 70 total on their cards. The winners were Thabo Moate, who finished first with 36 and 34, Shoaib Farooqui, who came in second with a pair of 35s on his two nines, Phil Purnell, who ended third with 34 and 36 on both nines, and Nathan Hunt, who had two nine’s of net 31 and 39.
Best Gross Score: Peter Whittaker started strong with a bogey-free front nine, scoring seven pars and two birdies for a 2-under par gross 33, followed by gross 37 with a string of pars from Hole 12 through 16 with a birdie four on the final hole to end with the day's best gross total of level par 70.
The day's special prizes went to Jeev Gill, who won the nearest the pin on Hole 10 for Division A. Konstantin Varga, who won nearest the pin on Hole 3 in Division B. And Phil Purnell, who won nearest the pin on Hole 14 for Division C.
