Make Umm Ali in 20 minutes!

Named after a woman in ancient Egypt, this Middle Eastern dessert is similar to bread and butter pudding

Ingredients

600 gms puff pastry

100 ml milk

50 ml cream

50 gms cashew nuts

50 gms almond flakes

50 gms raisins

50 gms sugar

10 ml vanilla essences

5 gms saffron

20 ml whipping cream

50 gms coconut powder

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200 C.

2. Unroll the puff pastry sheets, and place it flat on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes in a preheated oven, or until puffed and golden brown.

3. Pour the milk into a saucepan, and stir in the sugar and vanilla. Heat until hot but not quite boiling. Pour over the mixture in the baking dish.

4. Break the puff pastry into pieces, and place in a large bowl. Add the raisins, almonds, pine nuts, and coconut, and toss to distribute. Pour into a 9x13 inch glass baking dish, and spread evenly.

5. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Turn the oven to broil, and broil for 2 minutes to brown the top. Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Serve warm.
