As the price of non-vegetarian options like fresh chicken and Kingfish edge up, it may be time to switch to tomato-based pasta dishes as the top retail price of tomatoes was slashed by Dh2 and the price of pasta held up.

While prices of daily products like milk, oil, rice and flour have stayed steady, fish prices have seen some changes. The price of Kingfish rose by Dh8-a-kilo to Dh52.9, whereas the cost of one kilo fresh chicken rose nearly a dirham.

Regardless of whether you are buying pantry staples or going for the big proteins like Hamour fish, beef or lamb - the prices have remained the same.

Among other grocery items, while the price of tomatoes edged down, the cost of onions rose by 90 fils after dropping to Dh1 per kilo late last week. The cost of local cucumber too edged up slightly, by 10 fils.

So, if you are planning to go grocery shopping - whilst being mindful of the price increase of the above vegetable items - prices of most other essential items have stayed steady in Dubai.

The price of face masks and hand sanitisers, which are essential to stay safe during the pandemic, have remained steady throughout most of the COVID-19 period.

However, face masks, which generally costs between Dh0.8 to Dh2 per piece, saw a slight price reduction with the starting price dipping by 30 fils. A 50ml bottle of a hand sanitiser still costs anywhere between Dh5.30 to Dh21.20.
