Michelin star Chef Vikas Khanna's gesture for retiring Air India crew member goes viral on social media
Indian Michelin star Chef Vikas Khanna did an impromptu demonstration of his culinary skills on a recent Air India flight while en route.
According to a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, a user named Sanjay Lazar posted a video of Chef Khanna slicing berries and fruits to garnish a simple cake, in the flight's food service area. The reason for his gesture was to commemorate the retirement of a crew member, Rony, who was ending his service after 35 years.
The video shows Chef Khanna slicing strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries as garnish for a brownie cake that is available on board. He can be heard saying, "I have never done this before," in the short clip. He followed it up with whipped cream.
Later, the Michelin star Chef shared a picture with the caption, 'An emotional moment to re-create a cake 35,000 ft in the air for a retiring crew member Rony, who served Air India for 35 years.'
The tweet has gone viral, and garnered over 46,000 views.
A user, @Sonali Dey, wrote: "Vikas Khanna, You always go confidently in the direction of your dreams! I have positive wishes for you always."
Another user, @Chittaranjan Datar, replied: "Yummy way for the Airline to say T A T A to a retiring employee."
In addition, Air India also expressed their gratitude in the comments section, thanking Chef Khanna for his kindness.
Replying to Chef's post, @airindia wrote: "Absolutely heartwarming, Mr. Khanna! Recreating a cake mid-flight to honour Rony's 35 years of dedicated service is beyond special. May the skies of retirement be as bright and fulfilling as the journey with Air India for Rony!” #SpecialThanks
