Lifting a chair sounds simple, but in the latest viral trend called the “chair challenge” men seem to be struggling and women seem to be doing it ease.

Chair challenge videos have been circulating on the video platform Tik Tok of men and women lifting chairs with their heads against the wall at a 90-degree angle after standing at a distance equal to three times their foot.

The challenge went viral after it found that men had difficult time lifting the chair at the angle than women.

Women seem to be doing it without much effort, whereas, various videos of men losing their balance and struggling to lift the chair have emerged.

There are various theories circulating online as to why men are not able to easily do it. Some experts have suggested that men have larger feet therefore they are further away from the wall and unable to lift the chair quickly.

The Sun quoted US scientist Jeremy Johnson who suggested: “Interestingly enough, many girls can successfully complete this challenge, while most boys cannot.

“The centre of mass for most girls is lower to the hips, while the centre of mass in boys is much higher. Therefore for most girls, the centre of mass while bent over the chair is above their feet, while the centre of mass for boys is above the chair.”

Some also said that the centre of gravity on men is different from women and that might be the reason.

Professor Brian Ford from Cambridge University told The Sun: “Men have longer feet than women. Two paces back for a man would be some 60cm, for a woman it’s more like 50cm.

“The man’s larger feet mean he is farther away from the wall than the woman, and is thus leaning forward. The woman’s legs are closer to the wall, and are thus leaning back.”

However, none of the theories have been confirmed so far.

In the meantime, netizens are just enjoying the funny clips circulating online.

There are also those men who seem to have done it with ease and calling the trend a hoax.
