Cairo: Yemen’s Iran-aligned Al Houthi militia shelled a residential area killing six civilians and wounding seven others, the country’s official news agency Saba reported.

The militia shelled the district of Al Heemh in the south-western governorate of Taiz after besieging it with armoured vehicles and military forces, local sources said.

The dead included two women and a child, they added.

The rebel gunmen raided 18 houses in the area, detonated two houses and damaged other tenements by the random shelling.

Last week, 25 people were killed and over 100 others injured at a huge explosion at the Aden airport in south Yemen.

The blast occurred as a plane carrying members of the newly formed government landed at the airport from Saudi Arabia.

The Yemeni government has accused Al Houthis of standing behind the attack. The government said it would compile a file on the attack to present to the UN.

Al Houthis plunged Yemen into a devastating conflict in late 2014 when they toppled the internationally recognised government and overran the capital Sana’a and other parts of the impoverished country.
