Riyadh: A rocket fired by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Al Houthi militants had crashed near a Saudi water desalination in southern Saudi Arabia, an Arab alliance fighting the extremists said on Thursday
The attack unleashed Wednesday night resulted in no casualties or damage, spokesman for the coalition Colonel Turki Al Malki said in a statement. “ Military and security agencies are working to determine the type of the projectile used [in the attack],” he added.
Al Maliki noted that the rebels claimed their propaganda outlets to have used a Cruise missile in the attack.
He vowed that the alliance will take “firm, urgent and immediate” measures to deter the “terrorist acts and unethical transgressions” of Al Houthis against civilians and civil facilities.
Last week, the Yemeni extremists targeted the Abha airport in Saudi Arabia, injuring 26 civilians, including two children and three women.
Last month, Al Houthis claimed explosives-laden drone attacks against oil facilities in Saudi Arabia amid tensions between Iran and the US.
The extremists have launched dozens of missiles and drones across the border into Saudi Arabia over the past four years.
In March, 2015, the Arab alliance led by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, intervened in Yemen in response to a request from the government after Al Houthis advanced on the southern city of Adan, the country’s provisional capital.
In late 2014, Al Houthis had unseated the internationally recognised government and overran parts of the country, including the capital Sana’a, triggering a devastating conflict in the poor country.
