Saudi student choked to death in fight
DUBAI: A student in Riyadh has died after a fight with his classmate on Monday morning, the Ministry of Education has announced.
The boy was choked to death by another student on school grounds. Both boys according to media reports are 12 years old.
Surveillance cameras captured the fatal incident that took place at the Bishr Bin Al Walid Primary School yesterday.
Several teachers tried to help the sixth grade student and the Red Crescent was called to the scene, according to Ali Al Ghamdi, official spokesperson for the General Department of Education in Riyadh.
However, despite attempts to save his life, the boy died on the way to King Khalid University Hospital.
Al Ghamdi said that they are diligently investigating details surrounding the incident and the cause of death.
The tragic incident has drawn attention to the global issue of bullying in schools once again as social media users called for proactive measures moving forward.
“Bullying is the main cause behind most problems, it’s evil and needs a solution,” wrote one Twitter user. “We need: 1) cameras, 2) strong programmes discouraging students form bullying, 3) for students not to be left alone, there should be more than one teacher with them during recess and classes where their teachers are absent.”
