Cairo: Saudi police have arrested a man who had appeared in an online video shooting a dog on a public road, local media reported.
The man is also accused of putting lives of pedestrians at risk by firing a gun in the governorate of Al Dayer in the Jizan region. He allegedly posted the video online, triggering a public outcry.
Legal procedures are being taken against the man who was not identified.
If convicted, he could face a fine and jail term, according to legal experts.
“Getting rid of stray dogs, which pose a danger to society, must be in line with the animal welfare law issued for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries,” said legal counsellor Mohammed Al Malki.
Violators are punished by a fine of maximum SR50,000, he told Okaz newspaper.
The shooter in Al Dayer committed several violations, including firing a weapon in a public place and posting a video of the act in infringement of the kingdom’s anti-cyber crime law, Al Malki added.
